Project summary

The building management team commissioned Vanda Coatings to modernise the lift lobby areas across a multi-storey London commercial office. The existing silver-finish lift doors had become scratched and tired-looking, and a full colour change to jet black was specified as part of a wider interior refresh.

  • Multiple lift doors recoated across several floors
  • Colour change from silver metallic to jet black (RAL 9005)
  • Electrostatic spray method used throughout
  • Full masking of lobbies, surrounds and floor surfaces
  • Building remained fully occupied during all works
  • Each floor completed and handed back on the same day

Project outcomes

What the building management team got from this project.

Silver to jet black, every floor

Aged silver doors transformed to RAL 9005 jet black across all lift lobbies, giving the building a completely different feel.

Building stayed open throughout

We worked one floor at a time so tenants always had full access to lifts, lobbies and common areas.

Clean finish, no overspray

Electrostatic spraying wraps the coating around the door panels with almost zero overspray, ideal for tight lobby spaces.

Same-day handback per floor

Each floor was finished, de-masked and handed back the same day. Doors dry and fully functional within hours.

How the project was delivered

Lift lobbies are high-footfall, constrained environments that require careful planning to spray without affecting building users. Vanda's team carried out a pre-works survey to confirm door substrate, coating specification and sequencing across each floor.

Each lobby was fully masked using paper and tape before electrostatic spray application. Door panels, frames and surrounding metalwork were treated as a complete unit to ensure a consistent, uniform finish throughout. Individual floors were completed and de-masked before work moved to the next level, maintaining clear building access at all times.

  • Pre-works survey and colour specification confirmed
  • Degreasing, fine abrasion and adhesion primer applied
  • Surrounds, lift interiors and floor surfaces fully masked
  • Electrostatic topcoat applied in satin/gloss black
  • Full inspection before masking removal on each floor
