Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
Vanda Coatings' statement on modern slavery and human trafficking, published in the spirit of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and our commitment to ethical employment and supply chain practices.
Introduction
This statement is published by Vanda Coatings in the spirit of Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It sets out the steps we have taken to understand and address the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking within our own business and supply chain.
Vanda Coatings has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery in all its forms, including forced labour, child labour, debt bondage, and human trafficking. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships.
About our organisation
Vanda Coatings (Company No. 4784367) is a specialist on-site paint spraying contractor providing commercial recoating services across mainland Britain. We have been operating since 1997 and are based at 5a Charnwood Park, Clos Marion, Cardiff, CF10 4LJ.
Our workforce consists of directly employed operatives and office staff. We do not use agency labour for field-based operations. All operatives are employed on standard contracts of employment with statutory rights and benefits in full.
We are a Living Wage Employer, accredited by the Living Wage Foundation, and pay all directly employed staff at or above the real Living Wage as a minimum.
Our supply chain
Our principal supply chain activities involve:
- Procurement of coatings, primers, sealants and protective treatments from UK-based distributors and manufacturers
- Purchase of consumables, PPE and application equipment from specialist UK suppliers
- Hire of access equipment including MEWPs and scaffold from established UK hire companies
- Occasional engagement of specialist subcontractors for specific access or trade requirements
The majority of our supply chain operates within the United Kingdom. We recognise that further upstream in raw material supply chains (for example, the sourcing of pigments and chemical inputs for coatings products) there can be inherent risks of labour exploitation. We expect our direct suppliers to conduct appropriate due diligence within their own supply chains.
Our policies
We maintain the following internal policies relevant to preventing modern slavery:
- Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy: sets out our zero-tolerance position and the responsibilities of all staff to report concerns.
- Recruitment and Employment Policy: covers right-to-work checks, fair employment terms, and prohibition of unpaid or compulsory work.
- Whistleblowing Policy: provides a confidential route for employees and others to raise concerns about unethical conduct, including suspected modern slavery, without fear of retaliation.
Due diligence
Our due diligence steps to identify and address modern slavery risk include:
- Conducting right-to-work checks on all directly employed staff before commencement of employment
- Paying all directly employed workers at or above the National Living Wage and the real Living Wage
- Providing written contracts of employment to all staff, setting out their rights and terms clearly
- Verifying the credentials and compliance of any subcontractors engaged, including relevant accreditations
- Including anti-slavery and ethical employment clauses within subcontractor agreements
- Requesting supplier information and self-assessments for new principal suppliers where appropriate
Risk assessment
We consider the risk of modern slavery within Vanda Coatings' own operations to be low. All operatives are directly employed, working in accessible UK commercial environments with full employment rights, and paid above the National Living Wage. Our operations are transparent, site-based and directly supervised.
We acknowledge a lower but non-zero risk within our wider supply chain, particularly in relation to raw material sourcing for coatings products. This risk is primarily managed through our supplier relationships and expectations, rather than through direct audit of manufacturing processes, which is not proportionate to the scale of our business.
Key performance indicators
- Right-to-work verification completed for all directly employed operatives: yes
- All directly employed operatives paid at or above the real Living Wage: yes
- No upheld grievances or confirmed reports of labour exploitation within our business during the statement period: confirmed
- Anti-slavery clauses included in subcontractor agreements: yes
Training and awareness
Our directors and senior management are aware of the requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the indicators of forced labour, debt bondage and human trafficking. We communicate our zero-tolerance position to all new employees as part of their induction process.
We will continue to review our training approach and consider additional formal training for relevant staff as our business develops.
