Halts Corrosion Spread
Early treatment stops corrosion spreading along the panel overlap before it becomes a bigger problem.
Cut edge corrosion starts at the exposed steel edges where roof panels overlap. Left alone, it spreads across the entire roof and eventually means full panel replacement. We treat and seal it on-site before it gets to that point.
What every cut edge corrosion treatment includes as standard.
Early treatment stops corrosion spreading along the panel overlap before it becomes a bigger problem.
Sealing compounds and specialist primers close the overlap and keep water out.
A properly treated roof can last another fifteen to twenty-five years before replacement is needed.
IPAF and PASMA certified operatives for safe working at height on all roof types.
Our four-stage process for every cut edge corrosion treatment project.
We inspect the roof at close quarters to identify the extent of cut edge corrosion and any other failure points.
Corroded edges are wire-brushed or abraded back to sound, clean steel. Loose coating is removed.
Rust inhibiting primer is applied to exposed steel. A flexible sealant or membrane compound is applied to the lap area.
A compatible topcoat is applied over treated areas. All work is inspected before access equipment is struck.
Common questions about our cut edge corrosion treatment service.
Cut edge corrosion occurs where steel roof panels are cut during manufacture or installation, leaving the steel substrate exposed at the sheet edge. Moisture attacks this unprotected steel, causing rust that eventually undermines the surrounding factory-applied coating.
Yes. If treated before the corrosion becomes structural, cut edges can be cleaned, sealed and overcoated on-site. This is a widely used maintenance intervention that extends roof service life substantially.
A correctly specified and applied treatment programme performs for eight to fifteen years depending on coating system, roof age and local environment.
Once corrosion has progressed to the point of structural panel failure or water ingress, replacement may be the only option. We inspect roofs at height and advise honestly on whether treatment is viable.
Yes. Cut edge treatment is commonly incorporated into a full industrial roof coating programme. See our industrial roof coatings service.
