Road Blocker and Security Furniture Recoating, Newcastle

On-site recoating of road blockers, security bollards and associated street furniture in Newcastle, restoring the original colour specification and providing fresh corrosion protection without removal or replacement.

Metalwork Spraying Newcastle Street Furniture Security Barriers
Completed road blocker recoating in Newcastle by Vanda Coatings

Project summary

The client required a programmed recoat of road blockers and security street furniture across the Newcastle site. The steel and aluminium components had suffered weathering, impact damage and corrosion, and the existing coating had deteriorated to the point where recoating was required both to restore appearance and to prevent further substrate degradation.

  • Road blockers, bollards and security barriers included in scope
  • All components treated in situ, no removal required
  • Surface preparation: rust treatment, degreasing and mechanical abrasion
  • Corrosion-inhibiting primer applied to all treated surfaces
  • Two-pack acrylic topcoat applied to original colour specification
  • Works completed within agreed timeframe with minimal disruption

What we achieved in Newcastle

The client needed these road blockers looking right and lasting, without ripping them out of the ground.

Original colour back on every unit

Every road blocker and bollard on site now matches the original specification again. No patchwork, no colour drift.

Rust stopped in its tracks

We treated active corrosion with a rust converter, primed with an inhibiting primer, then sealed the lot with two-pack acrylic.

Sprayed in situ, nothing removed

Security barriers stay bolted to the ground. We prepped and sprayed each one in position, so the site kept its perimeter protection throughout.

Saved thousands vs new street furniture

Replacing these road blockers would have meant civil works, lead times and a much bigger bill. On-site spraying gave the same visual result.

How the project was delivered

Road blockers and security bollards in public areas present specific challenges: they are subject to impact and weathering, they cannot be easily removed from site, and work often needs to be completed with pedestrian access maintained. Vanda's team carried out a site assessment to identify the condition of each component and agree the preparation specification before work began.

Any areas of active rust were treated with a rust-converting product before mechanical abrasion was carried out across all surfaces. A corrosion-inhibiting primer was applied, followed by a two-pack acrylic topcoat in the required colour. Each component was masked individually to protect the surrounding surfaces, and the site was left clean on completion.

  • Pre-works survey and condition assessment carried out
  • Rust treatment applied to affected areas before priming
  • Mechanical abrasion to create adhesion profile across all surfaces
  • Corrosion-inhibiting primer applied
  • Two-pack acrylic topcoat in the specified colour
